听力原文:W: Uh' "excuse me, Mr. Sherwin, but I was wondering if I could speak to you for a

few minutes.

M: Well, I'm rather busy at the moment, Joan. Is it urgent?

W: Uh,yes, I'"I' m afraid it is. It' s personal matter.

M: Oh, well, then we'd better discuss it now. Sit down.

W: Thank you. Uh---you see, it's about my husband. He..uh...well...He...

M: Yes, go on, Joan. I' m listening.

W: He's ill and has to go to hospital tomorrow. But we have a young baby, you know.

M: Yes, I know that, Joan. You must be rather worried. Is it anything serious? Your husband' s illness, I mean?

W: The doctors say it' s just a minor operation. But it has to be done as soon as possible. And...well...the problem is my daughter. The baby. That' s the problem.

M: In what way, Joan? I'm not quite sure if I understand.

W: Well, as I said, my husband 'll be in hospital for several days, so there' s nobody to look after him.

M: You mean, nobody to look after your daughter, is that it?

W: Yes, exactly. Both our parents live rather far away, and...and that' s why I' d like to have a few days off. From tomorrow.

M: I see. I think I understand now. You need a few days off to lock after your daughter while your husband is in hospital.

W: Yes, yes. That's it Will...will that be all right?

M: Yes, I' m sure it will, Joan. All I want to do now is make sure that there' s someone to cover for you while you' re away. Uh...how long did you say you'll need?

W: Just a few days. He...my husband, I mean...should be out of hospital by next Thursday; so I can be back on Friday.

M: Well, perhaps you' d better stay at home on Friday, as well. Just to give your husband a few extra days to rest after the operation.

W: That's very kind of you, Mr. Sherwin.

M: Don' t mention it.

M: Oh? Exactly what kind of problems?

W: Oh, nothing very serious. I mean. I'm sure there is no need to worry.

听力原文:W: Hey Taxi! Ah, great. Thanks for pulling over.

M: Where to?

W: Well, I'm going to the National Museum of Art, and

M: Sure. Hop in. No problem. Hang on!

W: Uh. Excuse me. How long does it take to get there?

M: Well, that all depends on the traffic, but it shouldn't take more than twenty minutes for the average driver. And I'm not average. I have been driving down to an art, so we should be able to cruise through traffic and get there in less than twelve minutes.

W: Okay. Uh, sorry for asking, but do you have any idea how much the fare will be?

M: Oh, it shouldn't be more than 18 dollars...not including a...uh-hum...a tip of course.

W: Oh, and by the way, do you know what time the museum closes?

M: Well, I would guess around 6:00 o'clock.

W: Uh, do you have the time?

M: Yeah. It's half past four. Uh, this is your first time to the city, right?

W: Yeah. How did you know?

M: Well, you can tell tourists from a mile away in this city bemuse they walk down the street looking straight up at the skyscrapers.

W: Was it that obvious?

M: Well...

W: Oh, before I forget, can you recommend any good restaurants downtown that offer meals at a reasonable price?

M: Well, the Mexican restaurant, La Fajita, is fantastic. It's not as expensive as other places I know, but the decoration is very authentic, and the portions are larger than most places I've been to.

W: Sounds great! How do I get there from the museum?

M: Well, you can catch the subway right outside the museum. There are buses that run that way, but you would have to transfer a couple of times. And there are taxis, too, but they don't run by the museum that often.

W: Okay. Thanks.
