A market is commonly thought of as a place where commodities are bought and sold. Thus fru
it and vegetables are sold wholesale at Covent Garden Market and meat is sold wholesale at Smithfield Market. But there are markets for things 【21】______ commodities, in the usual sense. There are 【22】______ estate markets, foreign exchange markets, labor markets, short-term capital markets, and so on; there may be a market for anything which has a price. And there may be no particular place 【23】______ dealings are confined. Buyers and sellers may be 【24】______ over the whole world and instead of actually meeting together in a market-place they may deal with one another 【25】______ telephone, telegram, cable or letter. 【26】______ dealings are 【27】______ to a particular place, the dealers may consist wholly or in part of agents 【28】______ instructions from clients far away. Thus agents buy meat at Smithfield 【29】______ retail butchers all over England; and 【30】______ on the London Stock Exchange buy and sell 【31】______ on instructions from clients all over the world. We must therefore define a market 【32】______ any area over which buyers and sellers are 【33】______ such close touch with one another, either directly or 【34】______ dealers, that the prices 【35】______ in one part of the market affect the prices paid in other parts.

Modem means of communication are so rapid that a buyer can discover 【36】______ asking, and can accept it if he wishes, 【37】______ he may be thousands of miles away. Thus the market for anything is 【38】______ . the whole world. But in fact things have, normally, only a local or national market.

This may be because nearly the whole demand is concentrated 【39】______ one locality. These special local demands, 【40】______ , are of quite minor importance. The main reason why many things do not have a world market is that they are costly or difficult to transport.

Most Americans are responsible for their own medical costs. These can be extremely high if a person gets very(51)or has an accident. So people buy a health insurance plan to make sure these costs will be(52).

Most American colleges and universities have(53)health centers. There may even be a teaching hospital that can treat more serious(54).

Some medical services may be included in the cost of attending a school. But health insurance is usually needed for extra services. (55)most full-time college students must have insurance.

The University of Michigan will be our example. Students pay a health service fee. Then there is no extra charge when they are treated for minor(57)problems at the University Health Center. But the school wants students to have health insurance to pay(58)other services.

International students at the University of Michigan have two(63). They can buy the university health plan. Or they can(64)private insurance that is approved by the university.

The school also offers a special International Student Insurance Plan. This pays for most of the services offered(65)the University Health Center that are not included in the health service fee.

听力原文: Obtaining good health insurance is a real necessity while you are studying overseas. It protects you from minor and major medical expenses that can wipe out not only your savings but your dreams of an education abroad. There are often two different types of health insurance you can consider buying, international travel insurance and student insurance in the country where you will be going.

An international travel insurance policy is usually purchased in your home country before you go abroad. It generally covers a wide variety of medical services and you are often given a list of doctors in the area where you will travel who may even speak your native language. The drawback might be that you may not get your money back immediately. In other words, you may have to pay all you medical expenses and then later submit your receipts to the insurance company.

On the other hand, getting student heath insurance in the country where you will study might allow you to only pay a certain percentage of the medical cost at the time of the service and thus you don't have to have sufficient cash to pay the entire bill at once. Whatever you decide, obtaining some form. of health insurance is something you should consider before you go overseas. You shouldn't wait until you are sick with major medical hills to pay off.

B.It'll allow them to receive free medical treatment.

C.It'll protect them from possible financial crises.

听力原文: Here is a story. A participant in the long-distance race got his shoes filled with sand when he was crossing a beach. He had to stop to get the sand out hastily before he resumed running. Unfortunately a grain of sand remained rubbing the sole so that his steps became increasingly painful. Reluctant to halt and get rid of the sand, he continued to run in spite of the pain until he could stand no more. He dropped out of the contest just a few yards from the finishing line. As he managed to get out of the shoe painfully, he was surprised to find the cause of his lasting pain was only a grain of sand.

It seems that the greatest obstacle on one's way forward may not be a high mountain or a deep valley but a grain of sand that is hardly visible. To avoid blame on a minor fault one may tell a lie. That adds a burden to a heavy heart and weighs it down. In the days to come he will have to make up one story after another to cover the lie he told and the fault he committed. Thus he will never be able to free himself from lasting anxiety, worry and regret, to the ignorance that all his sufferings come from only a grain of sand -- the first lie he told.

(30)

A.He got injured.

B.He was exhausted.

C.He was knocked down.

D.He could no longer stand the pain.
