听力原文: More and more people are immigrating into the United States. The growing numbers of new immigrants have caused some tensions. Asian-Americans are concerned about a number of anti Asian incidents in the last five years. Some of the incidents involved racial insults. Some involved violence.
The United States Civil Rights Commission reported last autumn that anti-Asian violence is a national problem. Social experts say some Americans are looking for someone to blame for the country's economic problems. These people believe Japan is responsible for the trade imbalance and loss of industrial jobs. So they blame anyone who, to them, looks like Japanese... or simply Asian. This feeling is strongest, experts say, among poorer Americans who are struggling for survival.
Partly because of this problem, Asian-Americans are becoming more politically active. They are speaking out against anti-Asian violence and against policies based on anti-Asian feelings.
Traditionally, Asians have taken little part in politics in the United States. They put their energy into hard work and taking care of their families. Now, a movement for more political power has begun.
Asian-American politicians say the reason is mainly the desire for political representation. They say all Asian Americans do not share the same political goals, but share a desire to end all forms of racism. These political leaders would like to see more Asian-Americans in political life. California politician Jule Tang believes that Asian-Americans will become a united political force with their own elected officials. Ms. Tang says, "Asians want to be really part of the American system."

Though pinioned swans generally seem happy, under proper care, by hatching and rearing their young without any trouble, at migration time things become different: they repeatedly swim to the lee side of the pond, in order to have the whole extent of its surface at their disposal, trying to take off. Again and again the grand preparations end in a pathetic flutter of their half wings; a truly sorry picture!
This, however, rarely awakens the pity of the zoo visitor, least of all when such an originally highly intelligent and mentally alert animal has deteriorated, in confinement, into a crazy idiot, a very caricature of its former self. Sentimental old ladies, the fanatical sponsors of the societies for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, have no compunction in keeping a grey parrot in a relatively small cage or even chained to a perch. Together with the large corvines, the parrots are probably the only birds which suffer from that state of mind, common to prisoners, namely, boredom.

Consider the error in a company's failure to accrue interest revenue at the end of an accounting period. This error results in understated interest revenue and understated net income. Clearly, this company's accounting information is unreliable.
Biased information -- data prepared from a particular viewpoint and not based on objective facts -- is also unreliable. Suppose a company purchased inventory for $ 25. 000. At the end of the accounting period, the inventory had declined in value and can be replaced for $ 20 000. Under the lower of cost or market rule, the company must record a $ 5 000 loss for the decrease in the inventory's value. Company management may believes that the appropriate value for the inventory is $ 22 000, but that amount is only an opinion. If management reports the $ 22 000 figure, total assets and owner's equity will be overstated on the balance sheet. Income will be overstated on the income statement.
To establish a reliable figure for the inventory's value, management could get a current price list from the inventory supplier or call in an outside professional appraiser to revalue the inventory. Evidence obtained from outside the company leads to reliable, verifiable information. The reliability principle applies to all financial accounting information --from assets to owner's equity on the balance sheet and from revenue to net income on the income statement.
What does the reliability principle of accounting information involve?
A.The accounting information should depend on the principle.
B.The accounting information should be free from significant error and bias.
C.The accounting information relies on independent experts.
D.The accounting information must be verifiable by people outside.
Although the key to a good college is a high-quality faculty, the Carnegie study found that most colleges do very little to encourage good teaching. In fact, they do much to undermine it. As one professor observed: "Teaching is important, we are told, and yet faculty know that research and publication matter most." Not surprisingly, over the last twenty years colleges and universities have failed to graduate half of their four-year degree candidates. Faculty members who dedicate themselves to teaching soon discover that they will not be granted tenure(终身任期), promotion, or substantial salary increases. Yet 70 percent of all faculty say their interests lie more in teaching than in research. Additionally, a frequent complaint among young scholars is that "There is pressure to publish, although there is virtually no interest among administrators or colleagues in the content of the publications."
When a college tries to be "all things to all people"(line 1, Para. 1), it aims to ______.

C.encourage all sorts of people to attend college
D.make learning serve academic rather than productive ends
