听力原文: In all economic systems today, most businesses of any size rely on one system of organization: the division of labor. This means that the workers are specialized. Each worker has a particular duty to perform. as one part of the whole operation.

A good example of the division of labor is an assembly line in an automobile factory. One worker may install a door while another adds lights. Normally, workers stay in one place, and a conveyor belt moves the product to them. If one worker had the responsibility of producing an entire car, he or she might be able to complete one each year. By comparison, factories with assembly lines may produce an average of about thirty-five cars a years per worker.

The division of labor permits mass production, but it does have some disadvantages. For one thing, few people know or understand all aspects of an operation, In addition, mass production may be more efficient, but many workers complain that they get little job satisfaction from working on one small duty, day after day, To them, there is much more satisfaction in doing a job from beginning to end.

(33)

A.The division of labor means that workers are general.

B.The division of labor means that workers are specialized.

C.The division of labor means that each worker is in charge of the whole operation.

D.The division of labor means each worker has to be an expert in one area.

To say that the child learns by imitation and that the way to teach is to set a good examp
le is a bit oversimplified. No child imitates every action he sees. Sometimes, the example the parent wants him to follow is ignored while he takes over contrary patterns from some other ' example. Therefore we must turn to a more subtle theory than "Monkey see, monkey do".

Look at it from the child's point of view. Here he is in a new situation, lacking a ready response. He is seeking a response which will gain certain ends. If he lacks a ready response for the situation, and cannot reason out what to do, he observes a model who seems able to get the right result. The child looks for an authority or expert who can show what to do.

There is a second element at work in this situation. The child may be able to attain his immediate goal only to find that his method brings criticism from people who observe him. When shouting across the house achieves his immediate end of delivering a message, he is told emphatically that such a racket is unpleasant, that he should walk into the next room and say his say quietly. Thus, the desire to solve any objective situation is overlaid with the desire to solve it properly. One of the early things the child learns is that he gets more affection and approval when his parents like his response. Then other adults reward some actions and criticize others. If one is to maintain the support of others and his own self-respect, he must adopt responses his social group approves.

In finding trial responses, the learner does not choose models at random. He imitates the person who seems a good person to be like, rather than a person whose social status he wished to avoid. If the pupil wants to be a good violinist, he will observe and try to copy the techniques of capable players; while some other person may most influence his approach to books.

Admiration of one quality often leads us to admire a person as a whole, and he becomes an identifying figure. We use some people as models over a wide range of situations, imitating much that they do. We learn that they are dependable and rewarding models because imitating them leads to success.

The statement that children learn by imitation is incomplete because ______.

A.they only imitate authorities and experts

B.they are not willing to copy their parents

C.the process of identification has been ignored

D.the nature of their imitation as a form. of behavior. has been neglected

Learning Disabilities

Learning disabilities are very common. They affect perhaps 10 percent of all children. Four times as many boys as girls have learning disabilities.

Since about 1970, new research has helped brain scientists understand these problems better. Scientists now know there are many different kinds of learning disabilities and that they are caused by many different things. There is no longer any question that all learning disabilities result from differences in the way the brain is organized.

You cannot look at a child and tell if he or she has a learning disability. There is no outward sign of the disorder. So some researchers began looking at the brain itself to learn what might be wrong.

In one study, researchers examined the brain of a learning-disabled person who had died in an accident. They found two unusual things. One involved cells in the left side of the brain, which control language. These cells normally are white. In the learning disabled person, however, these cells were gray. The researchers also found that many of the nerve cells were not in a line the way they should have been. The nerve cells were mixed together.

The study was carried out under the guidance of Norman Geschwind, an early expert on learning disabilities. Doctor Gesehwind proposed that learning disabilities resulted mainly from problems in the left side of the brain. He believed this side of the brain failed to develop normally. Probably, he said, nerve cells there did not connect as they should. So the brain was like an electrical device in which the wires were crossed.

Other researchers did not examine brain tissue. Instead, they measured the brain’s electrical activity and made a map of the electrical signals.

Frank Duffy experimented with this technique at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Boston. Doctor Duffy found large differences in the brain activity of normal children and those with reading problems. The differences appeared throughout the brain. Doctor Duffy said his research is evidence that disabilities involve damage to a wide area of the brain, not just the left side.

Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the passage?______

A.Learning disabilities may result from the unknown area of the brain.

B.Learning disabilities may result from damage to a wide area of the brain.

C.Learning disabilities may result from abnormal organization of the brain cells.

D.Learning disabilities may result from problems in the left side of the brain.

根据材料请回答 50~64

Pronouncing a language is a skill.Every normal person is expert in the skill of pro-nouncing his own language; but few people are even moderately proficient 51 pronounc-ing foreign languages. Now there are many 52 for this, some obvious, some perhaps not so obvious. But I suggest that the fundamental reason why people in general do not speak foreign languages very much better than they do is that they fail to grasp the true nature of the problem of learning to pronounce, and consequently never set about tackling it in the right 53 .Far too many people fail to realize that 54 a foreign language is a skill one that needs careful training of a special kind, and one that cannot be acquired by just 55 it to take care of itself.I think even teachers of language, while recognizing the impor-tance of a good accent, tend to neglect, in their practical teaching, the branch of study concerned 56 speaking the language. So the first point I want to make is that English.Pronunciation must 57 ; the teacher should be prepared to devote some of the lesson time 58 this, and by his whole attitude to the subject should get the student to feel that here is a matter 59 of receiving his close attention. So, there should be occasions when other aspects of English, such as grammar or spelling, are allowed for the moment to take sec-ond 60 .

61 from this question of the time give to pronunciation, there are two other require-ments for the teacher: the first, knowledge; the second, technique.

It is important that the teacher should be in 62 of the necessary information. This can generally be obtained from books. It is possible to get from books some idea of the me- chanics of speech, and of what we call general phonetic theory. It is also possible in this way to get a clear mental picture of the 63 between the sounds of different languages, be- tween the speech habits of English people and those, say, of your students.Unless the teacher has such a picture, any comments he may make on his students' pronunciation are unlikely to be of 64 use, and lesson time spent65 pronunciation may welt be time was-ted.

Thank-you cards--heartfelt expressions of gratitude for gifts, services and general kindne
ss— seem to be rare in an age when the Internet continues to reduce human interaction.

Although our society has changed greatly over the past century, the etiquette(礼节) of thank- you notes has not. While most people would agree that thank-you notes under these circumstances are a necessity, there are still those who forever postpone or are forgetful for unknown reasons. And at no time of the year are thank-you notes more visible than June, the month of brides and graduations, and the beginning of summer parties. "It's a must-do thing. A real thank you does not come by e-mail. They come in the mail in an envelope. And what comes out of an envelope is a beautiful thing to touch and to handle and to pass around for everyone to read," said etiquette expert Letitia Baldrige.

Don't think for a second that Baldrige is old-fashioned. Handwritten thank-you notes--any handwritten correspondence, for that matter--have taken on an air of extra importance and dignity in this e-hyper world. Baldrige remains hopeful that the art may be enjoying a renaissance(复兴).

More than simply obeying rules of etiquette, thank-you cards are a sign of caring. "They're more important now than ever," expert Peter Post says. "You're building a relationship. And part of building that relationship is that you acknowledge when someone has done something nice for you. " The payoff(回报), Post says, can be huge. "It will continue indefinitely," he says. "The more we do it, the more it comes back to us, and it's a benefit to us all. It makes our world a little bit nicer place to live in. "

Thank-you cards seem to become rare because______.

A.interaction between people has been diminished than before

B.the etiquette of thank-you notes has become out of date

C.people have found better means of expressing their thanks

D.people have become forgetful in the new age
