There are hundreds of TV channels in the United States. Americans get a lot of entertainme

In most of these cases, the; police never found the person who committed the crime. Sometimes they caught the criminal, but he or she ran away again. The people who make "America' s Most Wanted" film it in the city where the crime happened. They use actors to play the parts of all the people in the case. At the end of the story, however, they always show "mug shots" of the real criminals, or police photographs.

听力原文: Global tourism is a $3.5 trillion industry that represents 10 percent of world GDP and employs more than 200 million people. Despite its global reach, tourism remains extremely fragmented; major hotel chains and tour operators represent only 20 percent of the business. Most companies—and countries—prefer to go it alone, even when it might be in their best interest to share data and marketing strategies. Now that's changing. In the past year, Spain and Tunisia organized a conference to support Mediterranean tourism. Australia, New Zealand and Fiji have also come together for a joint marketing campaign. Luxury hotel associations, like Relais & Chateaux and Leading Hotels of the World, are exchanging customer information with high-end cruise lines and tour operators such as Abercrombie & Kent in an effort to jump-start business.

Which of the following is the most appropriate title for the passage?

A.A New Trend in Global Tourism Industry

B.Global Tourism Industry and Employment

C.Global Tourism Industry and Marketing Campaigns

D.Major Players in Global Tourism Industry

The fact that most Americans live in urban areas does not mean that they reside in the cen
ter of large cities. In fact, more Americans live in the suburbs of large metropolitan areas than in the cities themselves.

The Bureau of the Census regards any area with more than 2,500 people as an urban area, and does not consider boundaries of cities and suburbs.

According to the Bureau, the political boundaries are less significant than the social and economic relationships and the transportation and communication systems that integrate a locale. The term used by the Bureau for an integrated metropolis is an MSA, which stands for Metropolitan Statistical Area. In general, an MSA is any area that contains a city and its surrounding suburbs and has a total population of 50,000 or more.

At the present time, the Bureau reports more than 280 MSAs, which together account for 75 percent of the US population. In addition, the Bureau recognizes 18 megapolises, that is, continuous adjacent metropolitan areas. One of the most obvious megapolises includes a chain of hundreds of cities and suburbs across 10 states on the East Coast from Massachusetts to Virginia, including Boston, New York, and Washington, D.C. In the Eastern Corridor; as it is called, a population of 45 million inhabitants is concentrated. Another megapolis that is growing rapidly is the California coast from San Francisco through Los Angeles to San Diego.

Which of the following is the best title for the passage?

A.Metropolitan Statistical Areas

B.Types of Population Centers

C.The Bureau of the Census

D.Megapolises

听力原文:Today, most countries in the world have canals. Goods can be moved cheaply by boa
t than any other means of transport. Some canals, such as the Suez or the Panama, save ships weeks of time by making their voyage a thousand miles shorter. Other canals permit boats to reach cities that are located on the coast. Still other canals help to irrigate fields where there is not enough water, and drain lands where there is too much water.

In places where it does not rain very often, irrigation canals carry water from rivers or lakes, such as the lake behind .the Aswan Dam on the Nile River, and provide the irrigation water.

In places where there is too much water, canals can drain the water off the land for use in farming. In Holland, acres and acres of land have been drained in this way. Since much of this drained land is below sea level, the water in the canals has to be pumped up to sea level. Dikes have been built in Holland to keep the sea from coveting the land.

Which of following is the best title of the text?

A.How Aswan Dam was buik.

B.Transporting with canal boats.

C.Canals and their uses.

They first arrived on British ships almost 200 years ago, with the aim of cutting back a r
apid growth of rat (鼠) population. Then the cats themselves became the problem. After dealing with the rats", they turned to birds-and now hundreds of them have been killed in a move to protect rare (稀有) birds. Even cat lovers have been persuaded to back the move, after being told that there was no other choice.

When British sailors took control of Ascension Island in 1815, they found nobody living on it but that it was overrun with rats which had escaped from sinking ships. They introduced cats to kill the rats-and were soon overrun by cats. By 1820 they were sending back to England for dogs to kill the cats, but that didn' t work. Ever since the wild cat population has been attacking the birds.

Man introduced these cats, and it has disturbed the balance. Ascension Island is a most important seabird gathering place. We have to undo man' s mistake in bringing cats here. Action has been taken to kill off wild cats for the protection of birds. Only cats raised as pets are allowed. Since they are micro-chipped (加电子芯片的), if they get caught they can be sent back to their owner. The action can be considered rather successful. The cat population is down to the last few-they're the most difficult ones to catch.

The best title for the text would be _______.

A.Killing Cats to Save Rats

B.Problems with Shipping Cats

C.Fighting between Cats and Rats

D.Keeping the Rat Population Down
