听力原文:Hu: Hi, John!

John: G'day, Hu! How's it going?

Hu: All right! But I'm having a bit of trouble finding some of the stuff I need.

John: Really! What're you looking for?

Hu: Well, I'm just trying to find out a bit about the use of steel in building construction. Have you any ideas?

John: Yeah! Well, speaking offhand, that should be straightforward enough. What about the library? There's a database on computer, and most of the stuff you need is catalogued—you should be able to find it somewhere or other.

Hu: Yes—but that's the easy part! You then have to find the book you want on the shelves, and you often find that it' s out already.

John: I know what you mean! Then you have to line up to borrow it, if it's CTL.

Hu: CTL? What's CTL?

John: It means "confined to library": you know—it means you can't take it out. You have to read it in the library.

Hu: It seems easy, doesn't it; but you have to reserve it, and then you may want to photocopy bits of it, or make notes — and there never seems to be enough time!

John: Hmm! In your shoes, I think I'd have a word with your tutor.

Hu: I think I'll do that! Thanks! See you later, Bye!

John: See yah! And good luck!

Question : What is the stuff that Hu is looking for?

(23)

A.The use of steel in building construction.

B.Computer usage.

C.Database on computer.

D.Building construction.

Mary: I can recommend (推荐) All Joy and No Fun, which 57 (be) out last week. It" s the sort of book that you find hard to stop reading once you start. I finished it within two days.

John: Sounds good: What"s it about, then?

Mary : It" s about being a parent. It focuses on58 it is like to be a parent rather59how to raise kids. It"s 60 (total) different from other books on parenting.

John: I guess so. At least the rifle(书名) suggests something new.

Mary: You"re right. The author said she 61 (borrow) it from a friend who recently had a kid. It has just five words, 62 she finds it the best way of 63 (describe) the true nature of being a parent. The point is being a parent is full 64joy, but is no fun. After a long day at work, for example, you come home to a long "to do" list: dinner, homework, bedtime and so on. How do you feel?

John: The 65 (write) sees things from her own point of view.

Mary: So she does.

John: Oh, I can"t wait to get a copy and read it at once.

Dialogue : Beautiful Packing

John: Glad to see you again, Sherman.

Sherman: Hi, glad to see you too.

John: Please, sit down.Would you like to try our new tea?

Sherman: Great! The main purpose of my visit today is to place another order of your Longjing tea.Actually, we will place regular orders from now.

John: Oh, it is a good news for us.I have the confidence that our tea won't make you disappointed.

Sherman: That is true. But before that, I'd like to talk something about the packing of Longjing tea.

John: Did you find any problems with the packing?

Sherman: No.My meaning is to improve the packing of your Longjing tea. There is no doubt that the quality of your tea is good.It is the packing that often gives the first impression on customers rather than the products themselves so we believe the packing is as important as the quality of the products themselves.

John: I agree with you.But could you be in details?

Sherman: Sure.Firstly, we believe the out-look of the package should attract customer.A beautiful packing is surely a great help in pushing sales. To be honest, your packing is not attractive enough to buyers.

John: Do you mean the color of the design should be more bright and eye-catching7

Sherman: Eye-catching with traditional Chinese style. You see, customers even can smell your culture before they open the box and drink the tea.As you know, one function of packing is to stimulate the buyer's desire to buy.

John: I'll pass your idea onto our designers and ask them to improve it.

Sherman: Thank you John.Secondly, if it is possible, we would like to advise you to improve your methods of packing.

John: Our packing is typical tin for tea.Any questions about this method of packing?

Sherman: I am thinking about how to let your packing speak for the good quality of the tea itself. Can we find some other packing ways to show off the appealing green and sl~ape of the tea?

John: We can leave an open window on packing.

Sherman: You get the point.

John: Thanks for your suggestion.

W: Do you believe in Internet matchmaking service?

M: That's really a new walk of life. What is it exactly?

W: It helps match up singles the world over, and helps find the man and woman of their dreams.

M: Oh, it must be to the taste of a certain group of people.

W: The advertisement said Dream Dates has matched up thousands of singles the world over!

M: Unbelievable! They must be exaggerating the figure!

W: Look at the way they manage their business: they collect applicants' photos, and give the applicants questionnaires to fill out as to what type of character they are.

M: I don't believe several questions can decide the type of person you're, People's characters are complicated and keep changing all the time.

W: Anyway, it seems that things work well this way. The information and specifications will be entered in a large computer database.

M: A computer to decide your best date? That's really ridiculous !

W: Look, it promises: Dream Dates provides expert dating service and a place for singles to meet, We'll introduce you to the person uniquely qualified to be your partner.

M: Sheer slogans! Not reliable!

W: It says you can enroll in a free trial membership!

第11题
It was unfortunate that, after so trouble-free an arrival, he should stumble in the dark a
s he was rising and severely twist his ankle on a piece of rock. After the first shock the pain became bearable, and he gathered up his parachute before limping into the trees to hide it as best as he could. The hardness of the ground and the deep darkness made it almost impossible to do this efficiently. The pine needles lay several inches deep, so he simply pile them on top of the parachute, cutting the short twigs that he could feel around his legs, and spreading them on top of the needles. He had great doubts about whether it would stay buried, but there was very little else that he could do about it.

After limping for some distance in an indirect course away from his parachute he began to make his way downhill through the trees. He had to find out where he was, and then decide what to do next. But walking downhill on a rapidly swelling ankle soon proved to be almost beyond his powers. He moved more and more slowly, walking in long sideway movements across the slope, which meant taking more steps but less painful ones. By the time he cleared the trees and reached the valley, day was breaking. Mist hung in soft sheets across the fields. Small cottages and farm buildings grouped like sleeping cattle around a village church, whose pointed tower pointed high into the cold winter air to welcome the morning.

"I can't go much farther," John Harding thought. "Someone is bound to find me, but what can I do? I must get a rest before I go on. They'll look for me first up there on the mountain where the plane crashed. I bet they' re out looking for it already and they are bound to find the parachute in the end. I can' t believe they won't. So they'll know I' m not dead and must be somewhere. They'll

think I'm hiding up there in the trees and rocks so they'll look for me there. So I'll go down to the village. With luck by the evening my foot will be good enough to get me to the border."

Far above him on the mountainside he could hear the faint echo of voices, startling him after the great silence. Looking up he saw lights like little pinpoints moving across the face of the mountain in the gray light. But the road was deserted, and he struggled along, still almost invisible in the first light, easing his aching foot whenever he could, avoiding stones and rough places, and limping quietly and painfully towards the village. He reached the church at last. A great need for peace almost drew him inside, but he knew that would not do. Instead, he limped along its walls towards a very old building standing a short distance from the church doors. It seemed to have been there forever, as if it had grown out of the hill inside. It had the same air of timelessness as the church. John Harding pushed open the heavy wooden door and slipped inside.

It was really hard for John to hide the parachute because ______.

A.he had sprained his ankle

B.the parachute was very heavy

C.it was pitch-dark there and the ground was hard

D.there were less pine needles on the ground
