听力原文:W: My dear, what a charming restaurant! It has such an old country air about it.

M: Yes, it's one of the best Italian restaurants in town. The decor is pleasant, the music good, and the food delicious.

W: Is that the owner's wife over there? She's dressed in the very latest European fashion.

M: She is the owner. She and her family go to Italy every year to keep in touch with the trends in fashion and food, and in decor too. But she doesn't actually change the food or decor here very much. Constant change would be upsetting to the customers. Be sides, the customers expect certain characteristics in an Italian restaurant, and she can't change those, or the restaurant would Jose some of its appeal to the customers.

W: Like the red and white tablecloths, you mean?

M: Exactly. And the music. But, however conservative she is in the restaurant, she always wears the latest style. in clothing. The latest dignified style, of course.

W: Yes, Well, what shall we order?

M: I'd suggest an appetizer, and then I% having either seafood or chicken, since I had red meat last night.

W: I think I'd like to try this flounder dish.

M: Good. Shall we order wine?

W: Yes, let's have a white wine.

M: OK. I'll get this chicken dish. Would you like to have pastry and coffee for dessert?

W: Yes, if I'm not too full by that time. Let's hold off ordering the dessert until later.

听力原文:M: Can you spare a moment, dear? I want you to listen to this letter.

W: Go ahead, then.

M: Dear Sir, my wife and I arrived home last night after a holiday arranged by your firm. We stayed at the hotel described in your brochure as a comfortable, medium-sized hotel, with a magnificent view of the sea, offering courteous, old fashioned service arid excellent food, served in a relaxed friendly atmosphere.

W: Yes, that's what the brochure said.

M: In fact the hotel is situated at least half a mile from the sea.

W: Through the gates of which motor vehicles were constantly arriving.

M: Yes, that's good. The food was strictly fish and chips. Wine was available, but at expensive prices, and the majority of the staff were foreigners and actually incapable of speaking or understanding English.

W: Yes, that's quite true.

M: In addition to this, we were most unhappy with the arrangements for our journey home. We were instructed to catch the 11. 00 am ship, but this was delayed and we did not get away till 6 o'clock in the evening. Now that our holiday is over, it seems pointless writing this letter, but I should like you to know that we were most disappointed with the hotel and travel arrangements. Yours faithfully, Herbert Wilson.

W: Yes dear, that's a very good letter.

(20)

A.A letter of invitation.

B.A letter of recommendation.

C.A letter of complaint,

D.An application letter.

听力原文:W: Hello, Larry, dear, where are you now?

M: I'm on my way home. And that's why I'm telephoning.

W: What's the matter? You haven't had an accident, have you?

M: No, it's much sillier than that. I've run out of petrol!

W: Oh, Larry! What a silly thing to do!

M: It isn't my van, of course, and I didn't know the petrol gauge was broken. It says haft-full, but there isn't any petrol in the van at all. And I'm at the telephone box fourteen miles from Brenton. I'm miles from anywhere.

W: Can you buy some petrol?

M: There aren't any buses. I can walk, I suppose. W: How far is it?

M: About six miles.

W: If you walk to Church town, and then back to the van, that will be twelve miles. You can't walk six miles with a full can of petrol.

M: I haven't got a can, anyway. And I haven't got any money.

W: That's a problem. Let me think! I've got an idea. Ask your dad to drive your car to you. He can buy some petrol, and you can put it in the van. You can drive the van home, and he can drive the car.

M: It's a good idea. Thanks.

What's the matter, with the man?

A.He has run out of petrol.

B.He has no money.

C.He has an accident.

D.He can't walk.
