听力原文: My father was a very soft-spoken man, however, he had some very definite ideas about money and work. He believed that work was good for the soul and, besides, money could come in very handy. Papa also felt that the best way to get a job was to already have one.
As a teenager, I remember my father being delighted when my brother landed a job working for a major hamburger chain. My brother wasn't very happy about the job but desperately wanted the money necessary to buy his own ear. Although the position was as unglamorous as they come, my father felt that it was a good beginning. He believed that if you had a job, it would show other employers that you are worth hiring.
Even to this day, I never resign a position until I am offered another one. Papa's wise counsel has helped me to be gainfully employed ever since I graduated from college. Although papa died a few years ago,' his wisdom will be passed on to generation upon generation.

Early Ideas about the Universe
1 Early man got his ideas about the universe by looking at the stars as you do. He observed carefully, and learned many things about the sun, the moon, and the stars.
2 Suppose you were asked to collect evidence about the sun as early man did. You might go out morning after morning and see it come up in the east. Even on cloudy mornings, you would observe that the darkness goes away and the world becomes light. You might not see the sun but would be sure it is there, because you notice that the earth warms up. As you continued, the sun climbs higher in the sky each day during part of the year. It stays in the sky longer. The earth gets warmer. Things begin to grow. It is spring and then summer.
3 After a while the sun stays in the sky for shorter and shorter periods. Many plants begin to die. Leaves fall. Winter comes. Year after year this is repeated and you cannot tell exactly why it happens. But you realize that the sun seems to make the difference. Primitive (原始的) man felt that since the sun was so powerful it must be a god. It may seem silly to us now to worship (崇拜) a sun-god, but primitive man was right about the importance of the sun to life on earth.
4 You have been told that the world is round. But suppose no one had ever taught you that the world was like a huge ball. Would you have ever thought of it yourself? You cannot see the curve (曲线) of the earth at once. You would have no idea of how big it was. That's why early man believed that the earth was small and flat. Such ideas appeared from the evidence they had.
5 If you watch the stars night after night, you will see them rise and set. As you look at the sky, it is not difficult to imagine that you are in the center of a vast collection of twinkling (闪烁) lights. Some early astronomers (天文学家) believed the sky was a crystal shell or series of crystal shells, one inside the other. They believed this because that is what the night sky looked like. For many centuries, men believed that the earth was the center of the universe and that the sun, the moon, and the stars circled around it.

But, you know, it is very possible that in the future the question will disappear, and we might very well ask instead, "What do you play?"
Computers and other technological, equipment are making jobs more automated and less personally demanding. Scientists tell us that one day in the foreseeable future, very few people will have to work. Our society will be operated by computers and we will have much more free time, so that our games will become more important than our jobs.
At the beginning of this century, almost everybody believed in work. But by the end of this century, we might be thinking quite differently. Today, people are divided into social classes in accordance with the types of work they do; tomorrow, it is more than likely that we will be divided according to the types of games we play.
This change in the use of our time may give rise to a new race of therapists (治疗学家) called "fun specialists," who will fill the same functions as our current career specialists. They will show us how to get the most fun and enjoyment out of our leisure time. Someday people will no longer be known primarily by the work they do.
What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Work plays an important part in our general lifestyle.
B.People are divided into social classes according to how much they earn each month.
C.It is very possible that game will replace work as the most important part in our life.
D.Game players know how to get the most fun and enjoyment out of our leisure time.
Much of opposition to The Origin of Species arose from Darwin's claim that all living creatures, including man, are somehow related. Many people were outraged by the suggestion that man shared a common ancestor with animals such as apes and monkeys. They attacked Darwin for saying that man had descended from the apes.
But Darwin never actually said this. He believed that modern men and modern apes have both descended from the same ancestor. But at some time in pre-history, millions of years ago, men and apes began to develop separately, and ever since have continued to take on different characteristics. Today, more than 90 years after Darwin's death, this is the opinion which scientists continue to hold.
In his works, Darwin described the progression of life from its earliest forms. First came the invertebrate-creatures without a backbone. Then invertebrates evolved into fish; fish into amphibians; amphibians into reptiles; and reptiles into birds and mammals.
Fossil remains found after his death show that Darwin was right. Perhaps the most amazing fact about his theory is that he managed to work it out with the aid of only a few fossil discoveries.
Fossil remains were not the only information which we now possess but which Darwin lacked. He did not know that apes have the same diseases as men; nor that they and men have the same kind of blood. Nor did he know about the modern uses of radiation which enable scientists to tell the age of fossil remains and so estimate the speed at which evolution has taken place.
Which of the following best describes the passage as a whole?
A.The Origin of Species is a very significant book.
B.Darwin's discoveries were proved to be right though the Origin of Species was severely attacked.
C.The evolution of men has gone through a very long process.
D.It was impossible for Darwin to prove his ideas only with the aid of fossils.
