Dear Han Mei,
I'm in London now. My sister wants to be your friend. Now I'm writing to you about her.
Her name is Joan. She works in a big school here. She teaches Chinese. She wants to go to China soon and see the Women's Football Team of China. My sister likes football very much. She doesn't stay in bed in the morning but runs to the school to play football.
Please give my love to your family.
Love from,
Linda

A.Right.
B.Wrong.
C.Doesn't say.
Dear Linda,
I have been in England three months now. I hope you don't think I' ve forgotten you. There have been so many places to see and so many things to do that I've not had much time for writing letters.
I shall soon be starting my studies at King's College. So far I've been learning about England and British ways of living. I won't tell you about London. There are plenty of books you can read and plenty of pictures you can look at. I'm sure you'll be more interested to know what I think about the life here.
I find some of the customs(风俗)new and interesting. People here do not shake hands as much as we do in Europe. During the first few weeks I was often surprised because people did not put out their hands when I met them. Men raise their hats to women but not to each other.

RE: Workshop
As you know, sales have plummeted over the past few months due to the current recession. We are going to have to make a concerted effort to pull our company out of its slump. I'm confident that we are able to boost sales to their previous level. I feel that this is a good time to have a workshop.
It's my desire that the workshop will afford us an opportunity to rethink some of our sales strategies and develop a concrete plan for boosting sales. I've asked Ms. Linda Davis to conduct a workshop for us. You may remember Ms. Linda Davis. She conducted a workshop for the sales department a few years ago. She's a dynamic speaker.
The theme of the workshop will be marketing and product development. It will be held in the Blue Room on December 20 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 RM. Lunch will be provided. Ms. Linda Davis is preparing handouts. The handouts will be distributed at the workshop.
However, I'll send them to you at the beginning of December so that you can know what will be going on at the workshop. Please take a look at them before December 20. If you have any particular topics that you would like Ms. Linda Davis to address, please let me know.

Subject: Workshop
Dear Mr. Ramon Rivera,
I' m looking forward to the workshop. I remember meeting Ms. Linda Davis.
If my memory serves me right, she lives in Los Angeles. Will she fly back to Los Angeles on December 21 after the workshop? It would be great if we could go out to dinner with her after the workshop and pick her brains about the best strategies for marketing.
I' 11 be out of the country on business for about one week in early December, but I can look at the handouts after I get back. There are some topics that I would like to see addressed at the workshop, but I' 11 wait until I' ve seen the handouts. Ms. Linda Davis may be planning to discuss the topics.
Regards,
Dorothy Yost

W: What do you want to know?
M: Well, I met a really nice woman, Linda, through an online music mailing list, you know, a discussion group on the Internet. I need some advice. You see, she invited me to spend two weeks in Germany. And well, I told her I had studied a little bit about the country and language, and she's kind of expecting that I know more than I really do.
W: Hum, you are really in trouble now! What do you want to know?
M: Well, she is planning on introducing me to her parents.
W: Hey. Sounds kind of serious.
M: It isn't, at least I think it isn't. Anyway, what should you do when you greet someone for the first time in Germany?
W: Well, it depends upon your relationship with the person. If you're meeting someone formally for the first time, you should make sure you arrive on time.
M: Okay. What about common greetings?
W: Germans often shake hands, and use the person's family name, unless they're really close friends.
M: What about with Linda? I'm not sure what I should do in her case.
W: You can call her Linda, shake hands, and why not take her some flowers?
M: Oh, how do you say "Nice to meet you" in German anyway?
W: Honestly, I think you need to take an intensive course in the German language before you leave. Otherwise, Linda might think you're speaking Japanese or something!
Questions 19 to 22 are based on the conversation you have just heard.
19. What are the two speakers talking about?
20. What do you know about the woman?
21. Where did the man meet Linda?
22. What does the woman suggest the man do before he leaves for Germany?
(23)
A.The most effective method of learning the German language.
B.The popularity of online shopping using one's personal computer.
C.Questions that one has to answer when going through customs.
D.Native customs in Germany when meeting someone for the first time.
