第1题
Among all the animals, the ape is most like human beings. Both people and apes have the si
milar brain structure, the similar nerve system, and the similar kind of blood. There are four kinds of apes: the chimpanzee(黑猩猩), the orangutan(猩猩), the gorilla(大猩猩), and the gibbon(长臂猿). They live in the deep forests and warm tropical regions of Africa and of Southeast Asia, including Indonesia. All apes are covered with brown, reddish-brown, or black hair everywhere on their bodies except their faces, feet, and hands. Their hands each have four fingers and a thumb that helps them grip things the way our thumbs help us. But they also have a thumb on each foot instead of a big toe. Thus they can hold things with their feet also. Having short, weak legs, apes do not walk on the ground very much. However, their arms are very strong. This enables them to swing from branches and travel very quickly from tree to tree. These animals live in small family groups that move from place to place in search of vegetables and fruits. They also eat eggs, small animals, nuts, and insects. When they are tired, they build nests in the trees. But they rarely sleep there for more than a night or two. Then they move on to look for more food. There are some differences among the following three kids of apes. The gibbon is never more than three feet high and weight only about fourteen pounds. The gorilla grows to be six feet tall and weight up to 600 pounds. The orangutan is smaller than the gorilla. It stands three to five feet tall and weight up to 200 pounds. Chimpanzees are the smartest of all apes. They can be taught to sit at a table and eat, to dress themselves, and to do things that human children can do. What does the first paragraph tell us?

A.The ape looks like human beings most.

B.People and the ape think alike.

C.People and the ape behave alike.

D.The ape is the most intellectual animal in the world.

听力原文: Did you know that there's a kind of bird that can sew? This bird, called the tailor bird, uses its mouth as a needle. It sews leaves together in the shape of a cup. Then it adds a layer of straw to the inside of the cup and lays its eggs there.

Each bird species builds its own special kind of nest. The most common materials used for nests are grasses, branches and feathers. A bird must weave these materials into a nest. Just imagine building a house without cement or nails to hold together.

Another bird is called the weaver bird. 'The weaver bird builds a nest that looks like a basket. The nest is shaped like a pear with a hole in the middle. The hole is the door of the nest.

A third bird is called the oven bird. The oven bird makes a nest that is very solid. The nest is made of mud. The oven bird forms the mud into the shape of an oven and then let it dry in the sun. The sun bakes. the mud, making it very hard.

Not all birds make their homes in branches. Some birds build their nests on the ground, while others bury their eggs under the ground. And some birds do not build nests at all.

So when you look for nests and eggs in the branches of the trees and bushes, remember, that some nests may be right trader your feet.

(26)

A.A cup.

B.An oven.

C.An egg.

D.A basket.

听力原文: Social insects live in integrated communities which in some ways are similar to human communities. In both types of community there is division of labor. In insect societies, certain insects are responsible for reproduction; the workers collect food While the soldiers defend the colony. In the same way human groups such as farmers and shopkeepers have specialized functions in producing goods and providing services to the community.

Insect and human societies are also alike in that individual members of the community work together. White ant workers coordinate their efforts to build nests. Similarly, in human societies, engineers, architects, town planners and construction workers unite to build cities.

The nests of social insects are as complex as a man-made city. In some insect nests special accommodation is provided for the young and for food storage. Many nests also have devices for regulating the temperature. So insect nests are as functional as human houses.

It is not surprising, therefore, that many analogies have been made between social insects and human societies. It must not be forgotten, however, that insects' social behaviors are determined by innate instinctive mechanisms. Insects show no capacity for learning or for developing a social tradition based on learning.

(33)

A.They both live in communities.

B.They both have soldiers to defend their societies.

C.They both show great capacity for learning.

D.They both have a division of labor.

听力原文: Many egglaying animals merely lay their eggs and leave. With turtles for instance, the eggs hatch on their own. The current theory about birds is that the earliest birds did just that, when they were coldblooded creatures living in warm places. However when they became warmblooded creatures living in cold places they had to remain on top of the eggs to keep them warm. This process we call incubation. For this they needed a place, a nest very likely the first nests were just primitive depressions scraped into the ground. Even now many species still lay eggs in this sort of crude nest. In fact, every spring a mother killdeer lays her eggs in scene pebbles along the edged the parking lot just outside this building. Primitive nests on the ground were fine for some birds but others began to elevate their nests onto Branches, perhaps to avoid predators. These early elevated nests were probably loose platforms of sticks and twigs, the types still built by ospreys and mostarians today. The latest evolutionary development in nests the most re cent version, so to speak, is the cupshaped nest. This is the one we regard today as the typical bird's nest, you know, like a robin's nest.

(33)

A.How birds' nests have evolved.

B.Why some birds' nests am considered primitive.

C.How birds learn to build nests.

D.Why birds lay eggs.
