听力原文:M: I'm never going to that coffee house again!

W: Why?What happened?

M: It's the third time in a week that I've had lousy service. I don't expect five-star treatment, but I do expect service industry employees to be at least civil.

W: What happened this time?

M: I walked in and went up to the counter to place my order. The woman working there was talking to her friend, another customer. I stood there, clearly needing to be waited on and she couldn't have cared less.

W: You mean she didn't even acknowledge you?

M: Are you kidding? She didn't stop talking for one second. When she finally took a breath,I told her my order. She gave me a dirty look and finally turned around to get my coffee. She practically threw it at me!

W: Well, maybe she was having a bad day. At least you got your coffee.

M: I got a cup of coffee, but not the kind I ordered. When I realized it,I went back to the counter and she was still talking to her friend. I interrupted her and told her that I got the wrong order. She had the chutzpah to try to tell me that I had made a mistake in telling her my order. Not only did she not take responsibility for her mistake, she tried to tell me that it was my fault!

W: That's really infuriating. What are you going to do?

M: One good thing about her talking with her friend for so long is that I got her name. I'll be calling the manager to Complain.

W: Aren't you overreacting?

M: No,I'm not. She's lucky I didn't pour the coffee over her head!

(23)

A.She is complaining to her manager.

B.She is talking on the phone with her friend.

C.She is talking with her friend in person.

D.She is checking phone messages.

听力原文:M: It's good to see you back. How was your trip to Arizona? Did you see the Great
Canyon?

W: Yes, it was fantastic. Now I know why it is listed together with the Nile river as one of the great natural wonders of the world. Here, want to see the picture I took?

M: Oh what a view! It is even bigger than I had imagined. I remember reading about the Great Canyon and I think it said that it was formed suddenly when the earth crust split open during an earthquake.

W: Well, not that quickly. Look, here is the picture of th Colorado river. See way down at the bottom of the canyon, that river and its tributaries have been wearing the canyon floor away for ten million years.

M: Then the canyon is the result of soil erosion. I'll bet geologists have made some interesting discoveries there.

W: Not only the geologists, archaeologists have also found the bones of extinct animals in caves in the canyon walls. In a cave one hundred and forty feet above the river, they found drift wood that dated back as far as thirty-seven thousand years.

M: That means the river must have been a hundred and forty feet higher up when it carried the drift wood into the cave.

W: It's very possible, but of course who knows. The Great Canyon is full of mysteries. Wouldn't you like to go to Arizona some day?

M: You bet I would.

Where has the woman been?

A.To Colonado.

B.To Anzona.

C.To the Nile River.

D.To the Museum of Natural History.

听力原文:A(man): Hi, Mice. I hear that you are planning to have a dog in your house. Is that true?

B(woman): Yeah. But I am not so sure now. I'd love to have one because I think dogs are good companions.

A: Sure. I think most people have had a dog or wanted one as their companion at some time in their byes. If you are thinking of buying a dog, you should first decide what sort of companion you need and whether the dog is likely to be happy in the surroundings you can provide.

B: So. What's you advice?

A: Specialist advice is available to help you choose the most suitable breed of dog. But in part, the decision depends on common sense. Most breeds were originally developed to perform. specific tasks. So, if you want a dog to protect you or your house, for example, you should choose a breed that has the right size and characteristics.

B: I have not decided yet, you know. I just thought dogs are lovely and they will do things you want them to do.

A: That's half true. You must be ready to devote a good deal of time to train the dog when it is young and give it the exercise it needs throughout its life. Dogs are demanding pets. The best time to buy a baby-dog is when it is between 6 and 8 weeks old so that it can transfer its affection from its mother to its master. If baby dogs have not established a relationship with the human being until they are over three months old, their strong relationship will always be with dogs. They are likely to be too shy when they are brought out into the world to become good pets.

B: Thank you so much for bring such valuable advice, Tom. I think I am readier than before to have my own dog now.

Why does the woman want to have a dog?

A.Because she is lonely.

B.Because she loves to protect a pet.

C.Because she thinks dogs are good companions.

D.Because she just lost one dog.
