One day Jack's wife was cleaning the house.

"Look at all these umbrellas (雨伞) ," Jack's wife said to him. "There are eight and they are broken."

"I'll take them all to the umbrella shop. Maybe the workers there can mend them, "Jack said. "They are too good to throw away."

Jack took the eight umbrellas to the shop and left them there. "They'll be ready tomorrow, "the shopkeeper said.

That evening Jack went home from the office by bus as usual. He sat next to an old woman. She had a red umbrella on the floor near her.

When the bus reached his stop, he picked up her umbrella and stood up.

"Hey!" the woman said. "That's my umbrella."

"I'm sorry, "Jack said, giving it to her. "I wasn't thinking. Please forgive(原谅)me."

The next day he took the umbrellas from the umbrella shop and got on the bus.

As he sat down, a woman behind him said, "You have certainly had a successful(成功的)day!"

He turned around and saw the woman he had seen the day before.

What was Jack’s wife doing?

A.She was doing some washing.

B.She was doing some cleaning.

Jack went to a barber's shop and had his hair cut, but he was not happy with the result(结果). When his friend Bob saw him, he laughed and said, "What has happened to your hair, Jack?"

Jack said, "I tried a new barber's shop today, because I wasn't quite satisfied with my old one, but this one seems even worse."

Bob agreed. "Yes, I think you're right, Jack. Now I'll tell you what to do when you go into a barber's shop next time: look at all the barber's hair, find out whose hair looks worst, and then go straight to him."

"Why shall I go to him?" Jack asked.

"Who cut that man's hair?" answered Bob. "Just think it. He couldn't cut it himself, could he? Another barber cut it. So you know he can't be the worst barber."

Jack was not satisfied with the new barber.

A.True.

B.False.

M: Hello, could I speak to Peter Lira Please?

F: I'm afraid he's in a meeting at the moment.

M: Could I leave a message then?

F: Certainly.

M: This is Jack Hanks.

F: Oh, yes. Of HBC International, you are coming to see us tomorrow I believe.

M: Yes, well, that's why I am calling. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it. And rather than rescheduling the meeting, I thought it best to send someone else along, Solon in fact.

F: OK. I will just make a note of that. Could you just spell his surname for me?

M: Sure. It's S-O-L-O-N. He's been with us for a couple of years now and he's very experienced. Actually he's just been made a manager of our Product Development section.

F: Is he familiar with our business?

M: Oh, yes. He's been working on your file for a few weeks now. And he'll be able to discuss the contract with you tomorrow. If everyone's happy, perhaps you can go ahead and sign.

F: OK. I'll pass a message on to Peter and we'll look forward to seeing Mr. Solon tomorrow.

听力原文:W: Hello Jack! You don't look well, and what seems to be the problem?

M: Actually it is big suffering for me. Every year almost this time, I must come down with something.

W: What are symptoms do you usually get?

M: You know, cough, fever, runny nose, headache and feeling chill. I'm usually miserable for a week and it just ruins my holidays.

W: Sounds like a typical flu. The heavy work must drive you exhausted this time each year. And you know, people are easily stricken by flu when they are overtired and stressed out.

M: That is quite right. (19) The period approaching New Year is the busiest time for me as an accountant. I must work overtime and keep my mind highly concentrated.

W: For this reason, you are exposed to the infection by the virus when you're in big crowds where lots of people are coughing.

M: Yes, (20) I must spend a lot of time in department stores buying New Year's gifts for people. Then what can I do to ward off the flu?

W: Actually it's fairly simple. (21) Get a lot of rest, drink more water and eat well. In that way, you can regain the strength to fight against the virus.

M: All these things make sense. But one more question. Will my family members be infected by me?

W: In that case, they must get ready for the prevention, especially for the old and child. (22) They may go to the health center to have an injection of prevention medicine.

(23)

A.Staying long outside.

B.Working overtired.

C.Working with patients.

D.Wearing few clothes.

W: Well, (19)I’ve been meaning to talk to you about the situation in the office.

M: (19)I'm not in there very often. It's so noisy that I can't work.

W: That's exactly what I'm getting at. We're supposed to be able to do our preparation and marking in that office. (20)But have you noticed? Jack constantly has students coming in to get help with his course. A lot of people are going in and out.

M: Has anybody spoken to him about it?

W: No, not yet. But someone's going to have to.

M: We can't really ask him to stop having students come in for help, can we?

W: No, of course not. But I'm not able to do my work and neither are you. I imagine it's the same for the others in the office.

M: Hum... (21)Could we ask for a kind of meeting room? When the teachers have to talk with a student, they could go to the meeting room and not use the office. You know, there's a room down the hall, a rather small room that we could ask to use. It's only for storing supplies.

W: You mean that little storage room? Oh, that would be too small.

M: Are you sure? With the cabinets taken out, it might be bigger than it looks.

W: (22)Come to think of it, you may be on to something. I'd like to have a look at that loom.

W: Can we go there now?
