听力原文: What I mainly feel, really, is nervous. You know, like I am being sent back to s
chool or some thing. I am feeling very lacking in confidence, which is of course not the best starting position. After all these years of doing the job, and doing it well, I'm proud to say, and picking it up as I've gone along. It seems embarrassing to be told to go get a piece of paper, to have to have a certificate, especially when you feel you know what you're doing. Yes, of course, I do realize there'll be things on the course I haven't done before. And that concerns me too. Because I don't know how well I'll retain it all, if I'll be able to recall it afterwards. Oh, perhaps it will all be OK in the end. I certainly hope so.

听力原文:MB Have you ever been to that lumberyard up on Fourth and Davis? I think it's cal
led Paul's Lumber, or something like that...

WA Yes, I've gone in there a few times. It's good... they have much better lumber than Carson Supply. Their two-by-fours are actually straight!

MB I know, they're also about fifty percent more expensive. I went in there to buy some two-by-fours, and walked out when I saw the price. The same wood at Carson is, like a dollar cheaper per piece.

WA True, but you get what you pay for. I mean, if you want to spend all day trying to find wood that isn't warped, Carson's is probably fine, but you don't have that problem at Paul's. The wood's all good there.

Why has the man contacted the woman?

A.To tell her about a store sale

B.To get her opinion about a store

C.To request advice about a home project

听力原文:M: Hello Linda. I'm glad I caught you before class. Did you know about the change
in the examination schedule?

W: Change?

M: Yes. The last day of examinations for your group will be December the 2nd instead of November the 29th.

W: Is that definite? We were told they'd be on November the 26th, and then there was a rumor they'd be on December the 1st.

M: The schedule's gone to the printer. There can be no changes. It's definitely December the 2nd.

W: That's relief. I'm going to the US on December the 4th.

M: Are you one of the exchange students?

W: Yeah. I'm really looking forward to studying there. Do you know if their general science courses are anything like ours?

M: Actually all basic general science courses are fairly similar. You'll find you're behind in some things and ahead in others. I wouldn't worry too much about the course. You've been doing well on this one. Well, I'll expect it next week. Now, would you like to hear the details of the timetable?

W: Oh. Yes, please.

M: I've just finished putting it on the notice board downstairs. Basically you'll have four examinations. General Mechanics is in the morning of December the 1st, physics and maths are on the afternoon of the stone day. Communications and English are on the morning of December the 2nd and Earth Science in the afternoon.

(27)

A.November 26.

听力原文:M: Oh, I just got some bad news today.

W: What happened, Tony?

M: Well, you know my job at the design studio?

W: Yes.

M: Well,...

W: Oh, no!

M: Oh, yes. Today the boss called me into his office and told me they had to lay me off indefinitely. That means as of April thirtieth, I'm out of work.

W: Oh!

M: No more job.

W: Tony, I am so sorry. You really liked working there.

M: Yeah, well, it's not all bad news. There's still a small chance that the company will call me back in the summer if the work picks up. You never know what'll happen. They may still need me then.

W: Oh, this is so sudden, isn't it?

M: Well, sort of. Two other employees lust their jobs last month, and I had a feeling I might be the next one in line. You know, I've only been working there ten months, so I don't have any seniority. If they're going to lay someone off, it's always going to be the newer employees first.

W: What are you going to do?

M: Like I said, I've still got a job until the end of the month. Starting in May, I plan to send out resumes and go on some inter views. Depending on the outcome of the interviews,...

听力原文:W: I've just read a curious fact. Did you know that people who spend less than 10
minutes in a drug store are five times more likely to make a purchase than those who spend half an hour there?

M: I saw that article, too. But think, if someone runs into a drug store for 10 minutes, he is usually there to make a specific purchase.

W: And someone who spends more time there may be just looking?

M: Exactly. Haven't you ever gone into a store thinking that you'll buy something and then talk yourself out of it?

W: Yes, I have. Especially when I thought I could get it for less elsewhere, or I really didn't need it after all.

M: Exactly, but, if you run in to buy something specific and have very little time, you pick it up, pay for it immediately, and then leave.

W: That's true. Maybe we should learn a lesson from that. Take your time end you'll spend less money.

M: I doubt if that would be true in all stores though. In a department store, for instance, you may see a sweater or some thing you never intend to buy, and buy it because you have time to look around.

(20)

A.A druggist's suggestion.

B.An advertisement.

C.An article.

D.A salesclerk's comment.

听力原文:W: I can't believe that we're almost out of high school.

M: I can't either. What are you going to do next fall? Go to college?

W: Yes, but I can't decide where to go.

M: Do you want to go to a big university or a small one?

W: I think I'd rather go to a small university, so the classes wouldn't be so large.

M: Do you want to go out of the state or stay here?

W: I want to stay in the state, so I will be close to home.

M: It sure would be nice to be close enough to come home on weekends when you want to. How about a public or private university?

W: Well, I like the atmosphere of a private church-owned school. The students are more serious about school, and there isn't a lot of partying.

M: Yes, but private universities are so expensive. How are you going to pay for it?

W: I've applied for a music scholarship, and my parents will be able to help pay for some of the expenses. What about you? What are you going to do after graduation?

M: I'm going to Oregon State University.

W: Oh, I know a lot of kids who've gone there and really liked it. Why did you choose it?

M: Well, a lot of my friends are going there. And the school has a good teacher preparation program. I've always wanted to be a teacher.

W: I hear they have a really great football team.

M: Yes. It'll be fun to go to the games. I'm really excited about the social life at college.

W: Well, good luck.

M: Yes. See you later.

(20)

A.A small private church-owned university in the state.

B.A small public university in other states.
