W: So, why exactly does your job have reputation for being stressful? M: Stress is general
ly driven by the feeling of being out of control of a situation and the feeling of a situation controlling you. Trading in financial markets combines both. W: How do you relax in the evening? M: I very rarely do anything work-related so it’s easy to escape the markets. I generally go to the gym or go for a run, especially if I had a bad day. I always cook a meal rather than have a take-away. To do something my brain will regard as creative. W: Do you think what you do to relax is an effective way to beat stress? M: I don’t think there is a specific rule about how to beat stress. I generally find out what I do is effective for me. W: Would you consider changing your job because of the high stress factor? M: I have considered leaving my job due to stress-related factors. However, I do think that an element of stress is a good thing. And if used the right way can actually be a positive thing. W: What do you enjoy about the stressful aspects of your job? M: Having said all that, I do actually enjoy an element of uncertainty. I enjoy mental challenge. 听力原文:M: Do you mind if I take notes?

W: Not at all.

M: Thank you. I see that you have been an assistant manager for four years, which means that you were made an assistant manager at a relatively young age. I'm interested in whether you have problems of authority, and how you would deal with them. Can you tell me how you would deal with a member of the staff who refused to carry out an order or request that you thought was perfectly reasonable?

W: I would make sure that the interview took place in private. I think that's important. I would find out whether there was hatred or dislike toward myself, or whether the root of the cause was domestic, or indeed in the work situation, and I would take it from there.

M: You'd talk it through?

W: Oh, yes.

M: Right, thank you. Er... as you know, there have been a number of applications for this post. Why do you think we should give it to you?

W: I recognize that I have a comparative lack of experience in senior management. Er... since I got my MBA, I've done a lot of work. I've done .... er... negotiation studies, and psychology studies. I think that I have a basis,.., er... for a fresh and dynamic approach.

M: Most interesting. Thank you for coming, and we'll let you know in about a week.

W: Lovely, thank you. Nice to meet you. Good-bye.

A.She had problems of authority.

听力原文:M: Hi! And welcome to another edition of "Crime Watch", the only talk- back radio
program that features real-life victims of crime and discusses ways to deal with it. And, our first caller is Sue. Hello Sue!

W: Hello !

M: Tell me, Sue. What happened to you?

W: I was involved in a bank robbery.

M: You weren't!

W: I certainly was !

M: Tell us what happened.

W: Well, I was just going to the bank, which I do every week, and I was standing in line waiting to be served, when suddenly this hooded man with a gun burst into the bank and started screaming and yelling for us all to put our hands up. So, we're all standing there with our hands up, while he forceed a teller to fill his bag with money. M: Wow! How long were you standing there like that for?

W: Not long. It all happened so quickly ! As soon as the robber had his bag full, he left, and the same teller who had filled his bag called the police. So we were all interviewed and had to testify.

M: You testified? You mean, they caught him?

W: They sure did. They gave him 10 years.

M: Wow! And, were you scared?

W: Absolutely. I was fearful !

M: So tell us, what's the best strategy when you're in a situation like that?

W: Well, I think the best thing to do is to stay calm. The robber might be armed, so you definitely don't want to panic-that would only attract attention to yourself. Also, don't make eye contact with the robber. All the banks have surveillance cameras, so let them do the work. And don't put up a fight-cooperate, give them whatever they ask for.

M: Well, that's very interesting advice, Sue. Now, if any of you listeners out there have advice, questions or comments for Sue, our staff are ready and waiting to take your call.
