An auto loan

John Baker works in the loan department of a bank in Denver, Colorado. He is a loan of- ricer. Stanley Fanelli has an appointment with him now to ask about a loan. He needs money to buy a new car.

Mr. B: Hello, Mr. Fanelli. Please have a seat. What can I do for you today?

Mr. F: I want to borrow some money to buy a car. A friend of mine, Jack Richardson, bought a new car last week. He told me that he got his loan here.

Mr. B: Oh yes. I remember him. I was the loan officer who spoke with him.

Mr. F: He said that you were very helpful. I know very little about loans and I hope you can explain things to me.

Mr. B: I will certainly try. What questions did you have for me?

Mr. F: First, I want to know if loans for buying cars are commercial loans or personal loans.

Mr. B: Neither, Mr. Fanelli. They're auto loans. A commercial loan is principal that banks lend to businesses. Personal loans are made to individuals, but not for buying cars.

Mr. F: What about interest rates?

Mr. B: The rate of interest currently in effect on auto loans is 16%.

Mr. F: For how long will I have to make monthly payments?

Mr. B: The term of the loan is three years, so there will be 36 monthly payments.

Mr. F: Do I have to give the bank any collateral?

Mr. B: The car serves as collateral. If you default, the bank can take possession of the car. The bank also checks your credit file to make sure that you always paid back your loans in the past. Do you have any charge accounts?

Mr. F: My wife and I bought our furniture with our charge card and we even used it to buy airplane tickets for our vacation in California last year. We paid off both those debts promptly.

Mr. B: That's very good. I assume there will be no problem. But the first thing you have to do is fill out this loan application.

Mr. F: Thank you very much. I'll start right now.

State whether each statement is true or false based on the dialogue between John Baker and Stanley Fanelli.

Mr. Fanelli needs a loan to buy his new car.

A.True

B.False

Dear Mr. John Simons,

I was pleased to see your advertisement for the position of Chief Accountant in the October 31 edition of World Star Newspaper.

I have been interested in your corporation for some time and have particularly noticed the recent achievements she has made with her product development program. The article by the CEO, Mr. Jefferson, in the Economic Review of February last year, gave some particular insights into development in this field.

I would like to apply for the position advertised. As well as holding the qualifications requested I also have relevant background that would make me a useful member of your corporation. Four years of college have trained me in accounting and full charge bookkeeping through trial balance. My 30 credits in accounting and courses in electronic data processing have equipped me to work with computer-based companies like yours. Training in business writing, human relations, and psychology should help me achieve solid rapport with them. And advanced studies in investment accounting will enable me to analyze the investing prospects from a planning perspective.

Because your company specializes in investment, my work experience could also be beneficial. After two years as a part-time financial analyst at George Commercial Group, I gained some practical knowledge in investment forecasting and decisionmaking. My accomplishments at that company were acknowledged by a substantial salary increase.

Mr. White, vice- manager of the City Bank, and other references on the enclosed resume will confirm you my potential for the accountant position.

At a time convenient for you, I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss my qualifications for beginning a career with Walters Corporation. You may contact me at the cell phone number in the resume or the address on the letterhead.

Thank you for your consideration!

Sincerely yours,

Mayor Willie Brown last Wednesday ordered San Francisco Public Library officials to allow John O'Connor to read to preschool children to get them interested in books and stop them from watching television and video games.

"I didn' t expect this kind of attention." John said, "It's just shocking."

But his idea was refused on the phone, in person and finally with a letter from Toni Bernardi, the chief of the library's children and youth service. Using terms like "appropriate material"(适龄读物), she wrote that only library workers are allowed to read to children.

John then went to a member of the city board of supervisors(督导董事会) ,who advised him to write letters to the library officials.

Who is the "Reading Wizard"?

A.Presidio Branch.

B.The King's Giraffe.

C.John O'Connor.
