In the American colonies, there was no standard currency. The coin that was in widest use was the Spanish Peso, known also as" Pieces of Eight" because it could be divided into eight pie-like pieces. The English colonists informally assigned the name dollar to this coin. In 1785, when the Continental Congress established U.S. currency ,they adopted dollar as name for the standard unit of currency ,at the suggestion of Governeur Morris and Thomas Jefferson ,.because the term was widely known and was not associated with any form. of official English currency. Jefferson also coined the term disme, from the French dixieme, for a tenth of a dollar. Pronounced deem, it eventually became dime.
The origin of the $ sign has several folkloric stories attached. One says that Thomas Jefferson invented it, perhaps as a sort of monogram for TS. Jefferson was the first to use the symbol in relation to the U.S. dollar, but this story is fanciful. Another says that originally it was U superimposed over an S,for U.S. of course. Eventually the base of the U eroded due to poor printing technology, leaving an S with two lines through it. Another says that it is a variant of a figure eight that appeared on the Spanish Peso, standing for the pieces of eight. This Past is close to the truth, but not quite there.
The Spanish royal family used on its escutcheon, two pillars representing the Pillars of Hercules in Gibraltar and Morocco crossed by an unfurled banner reading" Plus Ultra." This symbol appeared on the Peso, and looked much like the modern $ sign. It was adopted as a symbol for the Peso in the American colonies, and was transferred to the dollar.
The U.S. was the first nation to adopt an official currency named the dollar. In 1797 ,the Bank of England began minting" dollar" coins as bank-issued currency. Other nations that have adopted the name dollar for their currency have done so in emulation of either the U.S. or this short-lived Bank of England practice.

Everyone predicted that we'd break up one day. We were determined to prove them wrong and were engaged when we were 19. The evening I proposed was like something from a romantic novel. I chose my moment and asked the magic question: "Jody, darling, will you marry me?" Her answer was a few tears of happiness.
A year later, we had a typical, big wedding ceremony and Jody really did look the perfect bride in her white gown. We had a great time at Lake Taho for our honeymoon and came back and settled down to married life. Jessica, our daughter, was born, according to plan, two years after we were married and that was when our problems began.
We were both delighted to be parents, but somehow we just grew further and further apart from each other. Eventually, after four years, we separated and then, divorced. I still see Jessica regularly. I'm really sad about our divorce, but I guess everyone was right: we were too young when we started going out together and, the truth is, we were never really compatible.

Effective Product Differentiation
As obvious as it may sound, the truth is there are a lot of businesses out there. The odds of not having any competition are next to impossible, and something any worthwhile business, whether big or small, has to eventually come to accept. Every one of those businesses are trying to do the exact same thing: get people to buy their products. When flooded with so many potential prospects it isn't always easy for the customers to know which business is the best and which one has the best product. What you need to do is help them along.
Differentiating your business and your products from the competition is by far one of the most important details when dealing with any kind of industry. Everything a company does, from the creative ads they run to the inventive promotions they produce to the full color business cards they hand out is geared towards separating themselves from the rest of the flock. If you're going to compete with them you're going to have to do the same, and do it more effectively.
Sometimes the most effective approaches can be some of the most simplistic. Printing well-colored brochures gives a business the chance to show their customers the subtle or not so subtle differences between them and the competition, whether it is better designs, better features, or better prices. Handing them a list of all the products or services you offer allows them the ability to see exactly what they're getting when they do business with you, and the more a customer knows about a business the better the odds are they'll feel comfortable with them.
But, even going beyond the products, boosting up your company can also be an effective tool to place you above the competition. When you hand a person a business card, fully colored with a unique design you're handing them a means to remember you. A business card can say a lot about a person and the business they run. Simple, drab colors can be off putting to the per,son looking for a friendlier business. The right color scheme alone can differentiate you from the competition, and once you've managed to separate yourself out, you'll be in a prime position to be who the person favors when they need that specific product.
With competition as steep as it is today, every business has its hands full trying to stay above the rest. When every little thing counts, the business the customers will take to heart will be the one who can show them just why they're the best qualified. Printing out the right kind of colorful brochure or business card can be a valuable method of stepping away from the crowded business field.
